+ Initial consultation

We consider it an honor to care for your endodontic needs and appreciate the trust you place in us to do so. Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation so Dr. Hosking can determine your endodontic needs. We will discuss your dental diagnosis and treatment options. A 3D radiograph (CBCT) will be taken if appropriate.. Any questions you have can be addressed at this time and Dr. Hosking will review a solution that best fits your individual needs. In some cases treatment can be performed in conjunction with the consultation. However, complicated treatments or a complex medical history will require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment.

IMPORTANT: A parent or guardian must accompany ALL patients under the age of 18 years of age at the consultation visit. Please alert us if you have a medical condition that may be of concern (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) Please provide the following information at the time of your initial visit: Your endodontic referral slip and any X-rays, if your dentist gave you these. A list of medications you are taking. Your dental insurance card or information if you have dental insurance.

Procedures include root canal therapy, retreatment, care of traumatic injuries for adults and children, treating cracked teeth, and surgical endodontic procedures. Endodontics as a field has progressed and though it is thought to be very painful, is not very different from getting a filling or other common dental procedures. We specialize in treating patients in pain, and are able to get even the toughest to numb patients comfortable.

Most procedures in our office can be completed in a single visit and our team will do everything we can to ensure your visit is as pleasant and seamless as possible. Our goal is to provide exceptional care, so please let us know if your visit is anything less than exceptional so we can improve!

+ Dental Anxiety Management

Most patients can tolerate treatment with local anesthesia, however if a patient is anxious, gags easily, or is claustrophobic we offer a few forms of anxiolysis. Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative and is out of your system before you leave the dental chair so you do not have to arrange for transportation as you will be able to drive home. Minimal oral sedation offers a greater depth of patient comfort for anxious patients. For this level of sedation patients are calm, relaxed, and can tolerate appointments with greater ease. We ask that patients undergoing minimal oral sedation have a driver bring them to and from their appointment.

Please let us know if you would like more information about our sedation options when scheduling so that we can prepare it in advance of your appointment.

+ Post-Op Care

The vast majority of our patients are comfortable following endodontic treatment. You may experience some tenderness on the treated tooth and the surrounding gum tissue for a few days as a result of treatment and the previous condition of your tooth.

Most patients seek endodontic care because they have a tooth that hurts. Most of the time these teeth return to normal within a few days. Tenderness is normal and can usually be alleviated with ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and/or acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed by Dr. Hosking. If you were given a prescription for an antibiotic, please take it as prescribed. If taking an antibiotic, please keep in mind it can take up to 48 hours for an infection to respond. If a pain medication or steroid was prescribed to you, please read all label warnings to ensure that they do not interfere with any medications you are currently on and review them with the pharmacist. If you are experiencing discomfort that cannot be controlled by over the counter medication or significant swelling develops, please contact our office immediately or if after hours you can reach Dr. Hosking on his on call number: 321-234-5258.

Postoperative Instructions for Root Canal Therapy: Unless you have been instructed otherwise, follow these pain management instructions:

1. Take 600 mg. of Ibuprofen every 6 hours.
2. If Ibuprofen is inadequate on its own, take 500mg of Acetaminophen every 6 hours in addition to the ibuprofen.

For any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our team.
